Day 11 - 8th January

Caracas - Venezuela

The reports regarding Caracas were not good - pollution, traffic jams, muggings, poverty, etc so most people decided to give it a miss.  However, "Crocodile Quigley", his mate "Jungle Jill" and "I'm up for anything -  Bren" decided to hire a car and hit the "Bundu". We couldn't get a self drive car, so we took one with a driver....

Brenda, Jill & our young driver....

We learnt a lot about the flloods & mud slides  of 2 years ago & were amazed to find that on the coast road, along which we drove, 20,000 people had been killed in one night - many lay buried beneath our feet! In addition 1/4 million people had to be evacuated!

The spot from where I took the photograph had been a town - it had been completely destroyed & flattened - you can see the sides of two blocks of flats still damaged after 2 years

Bren & Jill standing in front of one of the boulders that had been washed down in the mudslide!

A marina being rebuilt

Left - During the sweet course, our two superb waiters produced a bottle of champagne remaining from the previous evening (the 8th bottle), and served it containing fresh strawberries - you can see we enjoyed it!

Right - We then retired to the Atrium for a musical interlude....

Needless to say those girls soon had the normally tranquil

and refined Atrium musical quiz in an uproar!!

We never could understand why they didn't invite us back?
